The water sources in Huksikot Rural Municipality, located within the Gindri watershed area of Nepal, which had been at risk due to unplanned road construction and climate change, have now been gradually conserved and restored. These water sources have been revitalized through Nature-based Solutions (NbS), such as planting bamboo and bamboo grasses in the upper catchment areas, fencing around the water sources to control grazing, and protecting them from environmentally unfriendly road expansion.
This demonstrates that adopting nature-based solutions can support livelihoods, conserve biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience. Therefore, it appears beneficial for Nepal to adopt policies that promote nature-based solutions for the well-being of both people and nature.
It is noted that this was a joint initiative of the Government of Nepal, local governments, local communities, SAHAMATI (a local NGO), and WWF Nepal.
